Beware of companies that promise you a Swiss bank account for a low price!

Executive-Services.com - Dubuis & Bourdeau © moonrun - Fotolia.comThere are several websites who claim they can open Swiss bank accounts for low prices. How is it possible ? These website are in their vast majority held by offshore companies or individuals who are not even located in Switzerland. Sometimes, but it’s rare,  these websites or individuals have a postal boxes in Switzerland, but nothing else. How can this websites or individuals open Swiss bank accounts for their clients if there are not even Swiss residents? This is simply not possible.

Our firm is a real Swiss company with a legal address in Switzerland. When we deal with a bank in name of our client, we do it face-to-face. All majors Swiss banks are within 10 minutes walk from our offices.

So, how can you do to know if you are dealing with a real Swiss company ? Our advice is to follow these simple steps :

1. The company must be registered in Switzerland in the official Central Business Names Index (Commercial Registry / ZEFIX). If you can’t fin the name of the company in this index, it simply means that you are not dealing with a real Swiss company. No exception.

2. The company who run the website must have a valid address in Switzerland. P.O. Box numbers should not be considered as a valid address. All companies in Switzerland must have a least a valid street address. No exception.

3. Then, you should ask yourself “Who is the owner of the website ?”. You have plenty of websites who can provide you this kind of information (called WHOIS), like whois.net or networksolutions.com for example. If the website has a “.ch” extension, it does not mean that this is a Swiss operated business. For “.ch” domains, check the WHOIS information provided by Switch AG (the official registrar for “.ch” domains). If you can’t see who the owner of a website is because of a so-called “private registration”, then you should ask yourself why the owner of the website do not want you to see who he is and where he is located. But we are sure you already know the answer.

If you carefully follow this four simple steps, you will know for sure if you are dealing with a real Swiss company or with an obscure offshore company.
